As usual, C was the one who wanted to eat Japanese Food.
She saw this place earlier last week and she felt that the food looks pretty not bad and she wants to try plus Sankai is having a promotion and some of their items are having up to 70% discount. Not sure how long the promotion will last though.

For starters:
Chawanmushi
In our opinion, this is one of the best chawanmushi we have ever eaten. It is perfectly seasoned, very smooth and there is no bubbles at the bottom of the custard and the whole custard comes off clean from the bowl. And also, they do not put gingko nuts in it which is absolute love to C as she hates gingko nuts in her chawanmushi.
Salmon Sashimi & Salmon Sushi
A little pricey as it is $1.20 per slice but its a must have whenever C eats at a Japanese Restaurant. Salmon is quite fresh and the thickness is quite generous.
Fermented Bean (Natto) Maki
Not commonly seen on any menu but this is more of an acquired taste. Natto beans have a distinctive and fairly pungent smell something like cheese but not as funky as blue cheese. It is sticky in texture so it can feel weird with the sticky rice and the sticky beans. They pair it with a little wasabi. I am usually not a fan of anything with wasabi but I guess the flavor and taste of the Natto beans covers the wasabi taste. Want to try something new, you can try this if you're game to (ô‿ô)
Smoked Duck
Nothing so fantastic. Usually smoked duck have a fragrant and slight salty taste but this one was almost bland, like as though it was soaked in water.
Enoki Tempura
Most tempura will only use Shikita mushrooms. Having enoki tempura was the first. But the enoki was too thin to actually taste it but the batter is pretty tasty! We left the tempura aside for almost 20 minutes and it was still crispy
Hotate MentaiyakiScallop baked with fish roe in mayonnaise. The scallop is perfectly cooked but there was too much mayonnaise.
Agedashi TofuSoft tofu which is coated with potato starch and deep fried so that the outer shell is crispy served with a sauce made of dashi, mirin, and soy sauce. So what's not to like about that? The fried skin was not even soggy after being soaked for about 20 minutes.
Sake Aburi
Aburi style refers to sushi where the fish is partially grilled (topside) and partially raw. Slightly smoky from the blowtorch. But again, too much mayonnaise on top of each maki.
Avocado Kyuri Maki
Kyuri = cucumber. The cucumber was too big to taste the avocado.
Salmon Avocado Temaki, California Temaki, Spicy Tuna Temaki,
Soft Shell Crab Temaki & Tempura Temaki
On average, the temaki was so-so. There's a bit too much rice and the filling was too little to taste.

The mains:
Spicy Ramen Set
Quite spicy but the soup base lacked a little OOMPH. The size of the meat is relatively big and it is very tender.
Sukiyaki Set
Beef, enoki, firm tofu, shirataki noodles (jelly-like noodles made from konnyaku) and cabbage. They even give a bowl of beaten egg to dip the slice beef in it. The soup base is not overly sweet like a lot of places out there. Worth trying!
Tori Teriyaki Set
Essentially, this is grilled chicken teriyaki. The chicken was superb! I never once fell in love with such a simple dish. The chicken was smoky and super fragrant. I thought it was grilled on charcoal and when I asked them, it was actually grilled on a electric griller. Felt kind of cheated but the chicken was so good that it didn't matter if it was not grilled on charcoal. Also, the teriyaki sauce has the perfect balance of salty and sweet. Really hard to find at restaurants as usually teriyaki sauce is either always very salty or very sweet. This is a must try!
