The Taiwan braised beef noodles is an iconic symbol of Taiwan’s food culture since the 1960s.
C and I happened to chance upon this after not going to Bugis Junction for the longest time. I was actually having tom yum soup cravings but when I saw this, I told C that why not just try that since we both love beef and it actually smelt quite appetizing.
After we sat down, we saw that they are part of Paradise Group so we had even higher expectations.

According to their napkin, LeNu's beef noodles are based on 4 Jin (Essences);
1. Authentic Braised Beef Broth
2. Specialty Noodles
3. Premium Well-Marbled Beef
4. Signature Secret Dipping Sauce.
When you're seated, they will give the menu and an order form. Once you're done, you head to the cashier and pass your order and make payment. You will also collect your appetizers (if you ordered any) at the display chiller near the cashier.

We did not start off very well at LeNu as their NETS machine was not up and running although it has been connected but yet, there is nowhere near the counter or even their service staffs informing customers that their NETS machine is not ready and we cannot pay via NETS. Thankfully we had enough cash.
Can't help but not to order any type of cold tofu whenever we see it one the menu plus this has century egg which is both our favourite, so it's a must order for us. The bonito flakes are flattened as they pre prep their appetizers and cling wrap them. But I was thinking, since these are pre prep, the sauce does not seem to penetrate into the tofu. But anyways, the century egg yolk was towards the moist kind and it was almost creamy; complimented well with the slightly salty sauce and the soft smooth, almost tasteless tofu.
For their noodles, they let customers choose from 3 types of noodles; thin, broad and rice noodles. Though, they will recommend you the type that will go best with the dish. They also have a noodle that contains absolutely no beef but the irony is that this is a place that sells beef noodles.
This was supposed to be the Braised Tendon Dry Noodles ($9.90) but they gave the wrong noodle (the one that contains absolutely no beef). We ate for quite a while until C ask why is there no meat in this dish so we told one service staff and they gave a portion of Beef Tendon.
Overall, we were unsatisfied with the meal.
The Braised Beef Combination; has tendon, brisket and shank. The brisket was quite tender but as for the tendon and the shank, it was not as fork tender as what we thought it would be. Same goes to the braised tendon that they gave for sending the wrong order.
If we went in the morning when they are just opened, I can close one eye for not being uber tender but this was almost 9.30pm where the meats were supposed to be braising for the whole day but yet it is not fork tender. The soup base for the Braised Beef Combination was supposed to be Hong Shao Niu Rou base but the soup base was rather bland. And also, somehow the braised flavor does not penetrate all the way into the meat. *fill in the blanks yourself*
Though they claimed to not use any "Added MSG" but we were super uber thirsty during and after the meal. Maybe it is the salt, I think their supply for salt is so cheap that they use it very heavy handed that spoils the whole dish.
We tried LeNu (樂牛) for the first time today and we are utterly disappointed. Still they dare to put the "Authentic Taiwan Beef Noodles". It is a far cry from what we had at Taiwan, Even though the beef noodles are salty in Taiwan, but the ones in Taiwan STILL HAD FLAVOR. But one thing LeNu (樂牛) has even beaten the Taiwanese is the salt level for their beef noodles. ( つ﹏╰)
FYI, they have another outlet at Vivo City which I saw some reviews that they are pretty not bad. But how is it that the same brand concept can vary so much? Or is it Paradise Group's standard has dropped?
